Pragmatic, detail-oriented commercial litigator on complex issues
Tom McDonell helps clients on a wide variety of complex commercial litigation matters and routinely appears in both state and federal courts. He has successfully represented several clients on appeal before the Illinois Court of Appeals. Tom represents clients on matters such as:
- Breach of contract disputes
- Real estate and construction litigation
- Securities litigation, including FINRA disputes
- Financial institutions litigation
- Post-judgment enforcement
Tom is active in pro bono work and serves as Quarles' national coordinator for the firm’s work with the Veterans Pro Bono Consortium.
Experience in Action
- Litigates dealer and franchise disputes on behalf of automotive manufacturers.
- Represents clients in real estate litigation, including commercial landlord-tenant disputes and mechanic’s lien actions, defending against constructive eviction claims and advising clients on City of Chicago building code violations.
- Defends clients against various state and federal consumer protection claims, including claims arising under the Fair Debt Collection Practices, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and the Truth in Lending Act.
- Represents FINRA industry members in industry disputes related to expungement, theft of trade secrets and violations of noncompete and non-solicitation agreements.

Represents FINRA industry members in customer disputes over allegations of unsuitability, breach of fiduciary duty, misrepresentation, securities fraud and negligence.
