Lauren McComis guides clients on patent prosecution for national and international patent portfolios. She has significant experience prosecuting applications both in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and filings under the Patent Cooperative Treaty. She has developed technical knowledge in areas such as:

• Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, deep learning, large language models (LLMs) and neural networks
• Computer software and consumer electronics, including financial technology, online educational software, virtual and augmented reality applications, and medical imaging and diagnostic applications.
• Control systems for industrial and heavy machinery, vehicles, including, autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles, industrial automation and manufacturing, and building management systems
• Communication technologies, including telecommunications, 5G New Radio, O-RAN, IoT, Cloud Computing and networking

Utilizing her technical training as an electrical and computer engineer, Lauren adds practical value for innovators of electrical and computer technologies, including computer software and hardware technologies.

• Develops and manages complex IP portfolios for clients operating within crowded patent landscapes, including industrial and heavy machinery, telecommunications, consumer electronics, hand-held motorized devices and computer software.
• Obtains IP assets for cutting-edge technologies, including:

• • AI and machine learning-based technologies, such as deep learning, LLMs and neural networks
  • Telecommunication technologies, including 5G, Open RAN (O-RAN) and virtual RAN (vRAN)

• Counsels clients on IP strategies for software-based technologies related to financial technology, educational software, digital image processing and AI and machine learning-based functionality, including LLMs and prompt development.
• Prepares invalidity, patentability, freedom-to-operate and infringement opinions and analyses.
