His View: There’s no magic recipe to building diversity into the legal industry. “I’ve been involved in it for a number of years, and I don’t really know the answer.” But some things do help, such as having diversity at the top, which shows there is a path upward for attorneys of color. Yi himself was recruited by John Daniels, one of the industry’s few African-American law firm chairs. Affinity groups focused on acting as a business resource can also be helpful. “The idea is we support each other in our efforts to be successful attorneys here within the firm. I think it’s useful. I think it’s helpful if done right.”
