It was after her third marathon in three days that Sarah Ames began to have problems.
She had just discovered that the bag containing her dual American and German passports had been stolen, and she still had four countries to visit and four more races to run.
“What happened is when I finished the Miami marathon I discovered that my backpack and my purse had gotten stolen,” Ames explained. “All my money. The Band-Aids, the food, chargers, spare running watches, just all that stuff was gone. Including also my asthma medication.”
