Immigration Attorney Erin Hogan Helps Pro Bono Clients Secure Green Cards
Erin Hogan, a Chicago-based attorney in the Quarles & Brady Immigration & Mobility team, recently secured permanent resident status (also known as having a green card) for two refugee sisters from the Central African Republic through the firm’s pro bono relationship with HIAS.
The sisters had come to the U.S. because they needed to flee their home country due to the dangerous conditions there. They have been making their home in the U.S. for the past several years but the recent grant of permanent resident status has changed their lives and paved the way for them to make the U.S. their permanent home. The sisters have not been able to travel internationally for many years due to their immigration status, so the approval of their green cards will now allow them to visit their sick mother.
Quarles works with HIAS to provide pro bono immigration assistance for refugees seeking work authorization cards and green cards, as well as help in preparing supporting documents that are used in asylum cases. It is critical work that changes the lives of refugees living in the United States.
