Anne O’Brien Named President of American Society for Pharmacy Law
Quarles & Brady Health Law Partner Aims to Expand ASPL’s Content and Educational Offerings
Chicago — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP is pleased to announce that Anne M. O’Brien, partner and member of the firm’s Health Law Practice Group, has been named President of the American Society for Pharmacy Law (ASPL). O’Brien officially began her duties as President at the ASPL annual meeting in San Diego, November 7-10.
O’Brien takes the position after years of active involvement in and contributions to the organization. She has participated in multiple committees, including the sub-committee for Education, serving as ASPL Treasurer and, most recently, President-Elect. As President, one of her key initiatives will be to continue expansion of the organization’s content and educational programming for members. O’Brien also hopes to continue the steady growth in membership ASPL has experienced over the past several years.
“The pharmacy industry is continuously changing as the laws governing it—and various risks threatening it—become ever more complex,” said O’Brien. “The ASPL has done a wonderful job organizing and asserting a cohesive voice and agenda for the pharmacy law space and I am eager to work with other officers and members of the organization to drive the ASPL’s mission forward.”
“Anne is incredibly dedicated to our profession and will make an excellent leader for the American Society for Pharmacy Law,” said Kristen Ball, Executive Director of ASPL. “We’re looking to modernize the way we educate our members, and Anne has the perfect balance of skill and leadership to tackle this initiative.”
In her practice, O’Brien advises pharmacies, wholesale distributors, and manufacturers regarding regulatory compliance and licensing issues. She represents pharmacists, pharmacies, and other entities in civil and administrative venues in matters related to discipline and licensure, actions filed by Medicaid to recoup payments and terminate provider status, audits by public and private payers, petitioning for reinstatement of eligibility to participate in Medicare, and the defense of medical negligence claims.
“Anne is incredibly qualified for her new role with ASPL,” said Quarles and Brady Firm Chair Kimberly Leach Johnson. “With her tenacity, knowledge, and passion for pharmacy law, I know she’ll represent our firm and serve the organization and its membership with great care and purpose.”
