Ethical Pitfalls in Employment Situations

This presentation will provide thoughtful answers to challenging questions, such as:

  • When does an employee defendant need separate representation?
  • What do you do when an internal complaint is filed?
  • Is an employer ever required to seek an injunction against harassment in the workplace?

Presented by: Pamela M. Ploor, Sean M. Scullen, and Judith A. Williams-Killackey

Ethical Issues in Intellectual Property: Prosecution, Licensing, and Enforcement

Every practice area presents its own unique spin on ethical issues, and this program will focus on traps in the practice of intellectual property law. From nailing down who your client is and who owns the intellectual property, to issues with your client's ability to enforce its rights in its intellectual property and creative ways to defend same, this program will provide practical approaches to handling ethical issues in-house counsel may need to address in the area of intellectual property and related transactions.

Presented by: Christopher J. Fahy, Nicole M. Murray, Kristin Graham Noel, and Martha Jahn Snyder

Teaching Corporate Employees How Attorney-Client Privilege Works (and Doesn't Work), and Why They Should Care

The scope and applicability of the attorney-client privilege are uncertain, and it's important that your team understands how it works before and after a dispute begins. Presenters will discuss the ins and outs of the attorney-client privilege, explain how advance training can help to avoid unfortunate consequences later, and provide materials you can use to train your people on how better email and documentation etiquette and how written communication can help—or hurt—them in any later dispute.

Presented by: Alexandra W. Shortridge, Anthony P. Steinike, and Joshua D. Maggard
