Privacy Protections Post-Dobbs: Preparing for a Multi-State Approach or a Federal Overhaul
This webinar will discuss developments in legal and regulatory protections for the privacy and security of reproductive health data at both the state and federal level. Specifically, we will outline key changes proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) designed to address the privacy of reproductive health data belonging to residents of states where abortion care is illegal and the extension of those protections across state borders.
Our discussion of the proposed rule will also include helpful guidance on the submission of comments to HHS regarding the proposed changes to HIPAA. Finally, this webinar will provide a brief overview of ongoing efforts to pass state legislation focused on health data, including Washington’s recently enacted My Health My Data Act.
