Please join Quarles & Brady and ACC Chicago on May 9 for a discussion on the challenges and opportunities new in-house counsel face as they make the transition into an in-house position. This event will feature several in-house counsel who will share their insights about their own experience moving in-house and/or hiring and supervising new in-house attorneys. Topics will include understanding the differences between an internal and external client, navigating in-house corporate bureaucracies, budget pressures, developing substantive knowledge and resources, and general tips and tricks for success.

The panel event is geared towards in-house practitioners who have transitioned into an in-house counsel role within the past 0-3 years.

Eric began his career with Quarles & Brady in 2006, and is a partner and immigration attorney specializing in immigration, I-9 and E-Verify compliance for U.S. and global companies. In addition to his responsibilities at Quarles & Brady, Eric is committed to giving back through civic activities. He serves on the Board of the Lawyers for the Creative Arts and is a member of the finance committee for the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He also serves on a national liaison committee for the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service.

Sarah is part of Aon’s Employment Law team. In this role, she partners closely with her business and HR colleagues to provide legal advice and guidance on a variety of employment issues that arise across any of Aon’s US business units. In addition, she manages outside counsel for Aon’s employment-related lawsuits.

Ron is the current Litigation and Commercial Counsel at Brunswick Corporation, which is located in Mettawa, Illinois. Prior to his position at Brunswick, Ron spent over a decade in private practice representing insurance companies in coverage matters arising from property and casualty, environmental, toxic torts, and construction defect matters.

Kate Greenwood

Kate garnered her experience initially at the world's largest immigration law firms, including six years as an Immigration Paralegal and Law Clerk while attending law school. In addition, she acquired experience developing and implementing practical business immigration solutions for individual professionals and corporations alike. After almost 10 years of practice, she transitioned in-house at Microsoft where she advises on a range of business immigration matters and compliance issues.

Jim Reiland
CA Ventures
EVP and General Counsel

Jim is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of CA Ventures, a privately held real estate investment, development, management, and holding company. He manages the legal, risk management, and compliance functions of CA and its operating platforms. Prior to joining CA Ventures, Jim practiced law at firms in New York and Chicago, and he was formerly a partner at an international firm with over 1,800 attorneys.
